The Milky Way ignites above Mount Rainier in a blazing vertical column, rising like a celestial beacon into infinite darkness. At the mountain’s base, faint airglow glimmers across the horizon, while ancient starlight spills down in a cascade of violet and gold. Every detail of our galaxy’s structure — dust lanes, nebulae, and star clouds — appears etched against the void, a galactic tower crowning the Northwest’s highest peak.

To achieve this level of clarity, the photograph was created from 40 separate exposures carefully stacked and blended. This technique reduces noise and reveals fine detail in both the galactic core and the mountain landscape — offering a view closer to what the human eye dreams of.
